SCAPA ZOOM MEETING AND PRESENTATION

Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT)
Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I) is the number one cause of general aviation accidents and fatalities. Current training addresses avoidance rather than prevention. If an accident occurs, it is most likely because the pilot lost control over his/her airplane. An airplane upset may involve pitch and/or bank angle divergences, or an aerodynamic stall. These can lead to loss of control. Hence, preventing and recovering from upsets is the goal of UPRT
The fundamental focus of UPRT is impeding a developing upset event at the earliest stage possible along the escalating pathway of an upset event that could lead to a loss of control. UPRT saves lives, fills training gaps, and improves manual handling skills and airmanship.
Our speaker, Mike Kloch, of Mike Kloch Aviation Consulting, is CEO and Chief Instructor Pilot at Specialized Aero Works based in Bend, Ore. He is a two-time NAFI Master CFI (2017 & 2019); CFII, MEI; and FAA Safety Team (FAAST) Representative, among other aviation-related activities. Mike has B.S. degree from Oregon State University, and two Aviation degrees from Central Oregon Community College. Mike is a former Marine Corps F/A-18 pilot, has flown combat missions during Operation Southern Watch (OSW), and was awarded Air Medal and Air Force Aerial Achievement Medals.
